What is Practical Shooting        How do I need to Get Started

Welcome to Practical Shooting at RRRC  2008

What is USPSA-IPSC?  USPSA is the United States Practical Shooting Association.  IPSC is the International Practical Shooting Confederation.  Other acronyms and terms derived from these names are "Combat Shooting" and "Action Shooting". IPSC competition is fun and rewarding and a bit challenging but allows the shooter to use a wide range of guns and equipment to compete.

A typical match will consist of competitors drawing from holsters, negotiating obstacles, using different positions to engage multiple targets, making rapid reloads, and completing the course of fire in a safe manner. All these functions are timed. The point score on each stage divided by the shooter’s time for that stage produces a “hit factor” number. A high score and fast time will generate a higher “hit factor”. Your goal in the match is perfect accuracy and lighting fast speed to achieve the highest “hit factor” total for the match. The great thing about this style of competition is that no matter how good you shoot, there is always room for improvement. The new practical shooter attending their first match will fit into the competition at any shooting level. You don't have to be the best shot or the fastest shooter to have the most fun. This will be our second year shooting both shotgun and rifles stages during the handgun matches. The goal is to have a number of true "three gun" stages this year.

You might be asking yourself about now, is this type of shooting safe for the competitor or the spectator? The answer is, yes. Range officers control each competitor’s gun handling during each of the stages of shooting. First time shooters receive special attention to make everyone’s experience fun and rewarding.  Safety is the hallmark of USPSA-IPSC matches.

Our goal at RR&RC IPSC matches is three fold. Safety--Fun--Value. Above all else "SAFETY" is the most important aspect of the match.  Goal number two is" Fun". If you don't have any fun at a pastime activity it is not worth doing. The final goal is" Value ". Time and money are valuable to everyone. If we don't receive some "value" for our time or money it is not likely we will want to repeat the experience! As the IPSC match director for RR&RC I have one simple guarantee. Attend our IPSC match as a shooter or spectator and you will not be disappointed!  I am looking forward to shooting with you in 2005.
